about thunder

Space Thunder is a gallery run by Thunder Comics.

It is a space that has been transformed from an old house into a gallery
Like its name, it is open to the public and dreams of an endlessly sparky space across gender and nationality.

The space also supports young artists and serves as a shelter for local residents.

Tourists from afar, residents of the village,
anyone can come in comfortably and watch the exhibition, we hope you enjoy unexpected joy and comfort while walking through the space.

Text by Bong-Sik Lee (Ph.D. in Fine Arts)

Why suddenly the letter “D”? From familiar words like Dream, Dog, Drama, Desire, Diversity, to unexpected meanings, "D" is a letter rich with interpretive possibilities. The title of this exhibition, D-秀作 (D-Sujak), emerges from such playful and metaphorical imagination. Respecting each artist’s unique perspective and expression, we bring together their shining “秀作 (Sujak: outstanding works)” in one space.

This exhibition continues the journey that began in 2013 with the “Golmok Exhibition” at Studio 1129 in Busan. Each year, the Golmok Artist Collective has turned urban alleyways into stages for experimental and diverse artistic practices, rooted in a spirit of community. Although this ongoing flow of exhibitions paused after 2021 due to the pandemic and sweeping social changes, that pause also served as a time for deeper inner reflection through art. And now, in 2025, the journey resumes—carrying “D” as a symbol.

D-秀作 is a drama in itself. Like Dream, it contains the artists’ visions of the future; like Dog, it is filled with humor and affection. Some works evoke deep emotions, like a Drama, while others explore human nature through the theme of Desire. Most importantly, it celebrates Diversity—a richness born from each artist’s unique visual language and life trajectory, refusing to be reduced to any single interpretation. The media are equally diverse: painting, sculpture, textiles, photography, installation, crafts, design, calligraphy, architecture—all come together in a shared space. The participating artists come from different backgrounds, with varying perspectives and senses of time, yet they pose the same essential question in their own ways:
“What can art do, here and now?”

This question may provoke a smile, silence, or emotional resonance.

D-秀作 is not conclusive, not restrictive, and remains open. It is a symbol that allows for free interpretation by the viewer. Like a witty pun, it can be lighthearted, yet it also carries fragments of life’s weight. As you walk through the exhibition, one might sense the nuance of Departure in the letter “D”—a restart, a retelling, a renewed encounter with art. This exhibition is a gathering of such moments of “again.” Art, at times, speaks deeper than words and offers comfort even closer than everyday life. D-秀作 aims to share the quiet accumulation of past time and the rhythm of moving forward, through the language of art.

The differences among the participating artists are not gaps, but conditions for mutual brilliance—for coexistence. In these differences, we laugh, we recall, we rise.

Imagine your own “D.”

What word will this exhibition leave behind?
